Welcome to Plathville fans were surprised by Kim Plath’s recent DUI arrest. However, the controversial matriarch has been in trouble before.
Throughout the reality series Welcome to Plathville, Kim Plath has been controversial, and her legal issues have come to light. She developed a reputation as a deeply religious and conservative mother of nine. Kim was often criticized by fans for being too strict with her rules. Nevertheless, her real character came under scrutiny when she was recently arrested, and charged with drunk driving. However, unknown to most people, Kim’s run-ins with the law started well before she embraced fundamentalist values.
On Thursday, October 20, Kim turned herself in at the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office in Crawfordville, Florida, for a DUI offense. She was also charged with property damage and personal injury. The arrest news shocked most Welcome to Plathville fans, who were aware of Kim’s deep religious and moral beliefs. However, according to The U.S Sun, years before Kim married Barry, she was also arrested for having an open container of alcohol in her car. At the time, 19-year-old Kim was given a citation for “possession of open container in motor vehicle.” This happened on April 7, 1991. She was the only passenger in the car during the arrest, and was later found guilty of the offense.
Kim Plath Dropped Hints About A Troubled Past
While fans might have missed it, Kim actually dropped a hint regarding her former non-conservative and wild college years, during an episode of Welcome to Plathville. During the episode, she was visiting a college with her rebellious daughter, Moriah Plath. Kim revealed that she was once in a sorority, and told Moriah about her past life, as a cautionary tale. She said: “I went through some rough times in college because of my wildness… Driving when I was drunk and waking up in the car parked weirdly on the lawn, passed out. You know, taking drugs and driving across town at 3 o’clock in the morning.” Kim noted that she could have died in so many ways, but credited God with saving her life, and giving her the strength to find a better path.
Fans Wonder If Kim Lives With Alcohol Addiction
During an episode of Welcome to Plathville, Kim stated that she didn’t always live the strict conservative lifestyle in which she raised her kids. She spoke of being raised by an alcoholic mother, who was only there for her when she was sober. Kim’s childhood experiences might relate to her wild lifestyle as a teenager, and how she seemed to return to her old ways once her marriage to Barry ended.
Still, Kim is a doting and caring mother to her children, and has been through a lot in her marriage, including the loss of her 17-month-old son Joshua, whom she mistakenly ran over while she was pregnant. Despite what she is going through, the Welcome to Plathville star has shown that she can bounce back from bad situations. Hopefully, she’ll do it again.
