Tammy Slaton from 1000-lb Sisters surprised her followers with an impromptu health update after showing off her capped trach. The TLC star has been staying in an Ohio rehab facility since her near-death experience in January. After her lung collapsed, doctors made the drastic call to insert a breathing tube.

Weight loss has not come easy for the 35-year-old reality star. Between boyfriends who were “feeders,” self-destructive behavior, and an addiction to junk food, Tammy has yet to qualify for her gastric bypass surgery. She has had to stand by and watch as her sister Amy Slaton Halterman achieved her goal of getting weight loss surgery. After the procedure, Amy was finally was able to start her own family. Over the past year, Tammy has taken a much-needed break from social media, as she has been spending time at a rehab center. News broke that she has done so well that she had even booked her own surgery for late summer.

It looks like news of an upcoming surgery could be right on the money, as eagle-eyed fans noticed that Tammy’s trach had been capped in a recent TikTok video. While talking about her ex-boyfriend, Phillip Redmond, Tammy inadvertently showed off her healing windpipe. It is extremely good news that Tammy’s trach has been capped, since it means that she is now breathing independently. Having a cap covering the tube blocks air from coming in, so Tammy has to use her own nose and mouth to breathe. 1000-lb Sister fans will be pleased to discover that this is often the last step before the trach is removed.

Even though Tammy has been on a social media hiatus, she has been popping up a bit, quite regularly, over the last few weeks. Tammy recently answered a fan’s question about Phillip, noting that he was a nice guy, but not for her. As 1000-lb Sisters fans know, the former beau was really into “feeding,” and often hindered Tammy’s progress. However, she seems to be feeling positive about her future now, which is a total 180 from previous years.

TLC has yet to confirm whether there will be a new season of 1000-lb Sisters. However, a few months back, Tammy let it slip that cameras had been visiting her while she was in rehab. While Amy isn’t convinced that she will be returning for a fourth season, Tammy made it clear she would be there with bells on, hopefully without a trach in her neck.
